Dedicated to applying the Covenantal Worldview to the issues of the day.

Director: Reverend Ralph Allan Smith

The Covenant Worldview Institute was founded in 1988 to promote the application of the Gospel to all of life. It is our conviction that nothing less can fulfill Jesus' Great Commission for the Church.

"And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying,
All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
Go ye therefore, and disciple all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit:
teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you:
and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen."
(Matthew 28:18-20)

Christ commanded the twelve to go into all the world and make all the nations His disciples. This is not merely a command to announce the Gospel. The command to disciple the nations involves fulfilling the following two procedures:

1. The nations must be baptized into covenant relation with God.

2. They must be trained to obey all of Christ's commandments.

For two thousand years the Church of Jesus Christ has, with unflagging zeal, declared the Gospel of grace and baptized converts. Innumerable missionaries, pastors, and evangelists have devoted, and sometimes sacrificed, their lives for the work of God's kingdom. Through their labor the Gospel has spread to all the world. And we, who now benefit from their labors, are bound to honor them from our hearts.

At the same time, it must also be said that their work is not without defect, especially in these last 100 years. Pastors and missionaries have not been teaching Christians to fulfill all of Christ's commandments and, thus, have not been fulfilling the Great Commission. Christians in our day seem to have forgotten that teaching obedience to the commandments of Scripture is part of the Great Commission.

We believe that all of the ethical teaching of the Bible (including the Old Testament) is included in the expression "all things whatsoever I have commanded you."

The Bible provides us with the knowledge we need to deal with the fundamental issues of every field of academics and every problem of daily life (2 Tim. 3:16-17). Whatever the problem, the Bible gives us God's answer.

And the world of our day is in desperate need of answers. To mention only a few of the more conspicuous problems we face a radical decline in morals and education, the breakdown of the family, rampant debt, increasing violence and crime, and the growth of occult and dangerous religions.

Christians know that apart from the Gospel, there is no answer to the misery brought about through human sin. The Gospel of God's redeeming grace is the only way of salvation. Only by faith in Christ can one have his sin's forgiven and be justified. Salvation is by grace through faith (Ephesians 2:4-9).

But the faith which saves does not end merely in salvation from wrath. God has chosen us unto good works (Ephesians 2:10). By the power of the Holy Spirit we are enabled to keep God's commands (Romans 8:4) and do good works that will bear lasting fruit for the kingdom of God (John 15:16).

Christ has been exalted to heaven, far above all other authorities. He is now working through His Church to build God's kingdom (Matthew 28:18; Ephesians 1:15-23). Christians' righteous lives and good works are the means through which Christ defeats His enemies (cf. 1 Corinthians 15:25-26, 58). In other words, Christians, by submitting to the teaching of Scripture, spread the kingdom of God in this world so that finally the Church will build a global Christian civilization in which God's name will be honored and His will shall be done on earth as it is in heaven. Through the victory of the Gospel of Christ the kingdom of God will come and the daily prayer of every Christian -- "Thy kingdom come" -- will be answered (Matthew 6:9-10).

Christians must be devoted to constructing a global Christian civilization. "And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the LORD'S house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it" (Isaiah 2:2).

We must believe that the Christ to whom all authority in and on earth has been granted is building God's kingdom by the power of the Holy Spirit through His Church. The gates of hell with not be able to withstand the assault. By the power of God's Spirit the Church will be enabled to defeat Satan and his host (Romans 16:20). And we will see the glory of God revealed in all the world.

To accomplish her calling the Church must fulfill the entire Great Commission. To a world that is dying in sin because it lacks the answers given in Holy Scripture, we must proclaim the whole Gospel of God's saving Grace.
